Jerry Martin, M.D.

Dr. Jerry Martin is a Shreveport native and a graduate of Byrd High School in 1954.  After graduation from Centenary College in 1958 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, he attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans graduating with an M. D. degree in 1962.  His Internship in Pathology was served at Charity Hospital of New Orleans in 1962-63, and his residency in Clinical and Anatomic Pathology was completed at Confederate Memorial Medical Center — now known as LSU Health Sciences Center — in 1967.  Following residency, Dr. Martin served two years as a Captain in the United States Air Force at Ehrling Bergquist USAF Hospital, Offutt AFB, Nebraska where he was Chief of Laboratory Services and Consultant in Pathology to the laboratories at the USAF Hospital at Minot, North Dakota and the USAF Hospital at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota. 

He returned to the private practice of Clinical and Anatomic Pathology in Shreveport in 1969 where he remained in practice until retirement in 1998.  Dr. Martin’s staff appointments included Highland Hospital, Christus Schumpert Medical Center, De Soto General Hospital, Mansfield, LA., Panola General Hospital, Carthage, TX.,  Shelby Regional Medical Center, Center, TX., and Natchitoches Parish Hospital, Natchitoches, LA. He was a partner in both Diagnostic Pathology and Stoer and Associates, Inc. Dr. Martin was privileged to have had an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology in the early days of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport.

Dr. Martin is certified by the American Board of Pathology, and is a Fellow of both the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists. His professional associations have included the American Association of Blood Banks, the International Academy of Pathology, the United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society for Microbiology, the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, and the Shreveport Medical Society, previously serving as a Member of the Board of Directors. He is a long time member of the Board of Trustees of LifeShare Blood Centers on which he currently serves. Dr. Martin is also the current Vice-President of the Boards of Trustees of both the LifeShare Blood Centers Foundation and Blood Center Properties, Inc.  He is a long time member of the Board of Trustees of Medical Center Clinics, Inc. on which he also currently serves.
