Neil Johnson was raised in Shreveport, with roots going deep into both his hometown and the state of Louisiana. A degree in journalism from Washington & Lee University prepared him for a career in newspapers, but he became fascinated with the new custom photo lab, Par Excellence, in Shreveport and began work there as a phototechnician after graduation in 1976. He calls that place his “grad school” in photography, even though he is essentially self-taught.
He has explored the artistry of photography from day one (back in the 1970s) and continually uses his camera as a creative outlet both in the studio and travels. The creativity of art inspires his continuing commercial work and the necessary discipline of his commercial work improves his art. Because of his background in journalism, commercial work, and travel, his work shows a love for the depth of beauty and mystery found in every corner of our world.
But it all comes back to his always evolving love affair with three mediums: photography, writing and story-telling.
Neil is married to Cindy Gleason Johnson. Together they have three amazing grown children, now exploring the world in their own unique ways, Sara Luna Corzine, Bradford Johnson, and Hannah Johnson.
